The MalaCast

I tell some stories mostly about evil people who were clearly evil for years prior to now.  And yet, our society did nothing or almost nothing to protect its wonderful people.

Charles Schwab died unhappy, wifeless and childless.

But that is not all we should know about an extraordinary man -- not by a long shot.

There are drawbacks of immigration, whether the left will acknowledge any or not.

1) They make the place they immigrate to less friendly if they don't speak the language.

2) They pull the country leftward which increases the chance of societal upheaval.

Stick around at the end; I also included a considerably diverting story about Wrong Way Corrigan.

Maurice Hilleman was a great man who deserves to be known.  Happy Thanksgiving!

I comment on a video from a Professor McKinnon.  She makes a number of mistakes in said video and I point them out.

Nobody knows anything about the Amazon, such as the fact that the Amazon is not a net producer of oxygen.  It has no significant effect on the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere.  I compare the panic over the present fire with the panic over Ebola in 2014.

An excellent article in Quillette has put its finger on an important political bit of propaganda used by leftwing activists:  Concept inflation.  Violence used to mean violence, now it means when a right winger says things.  Sexual assault used to mean sexual assault, now it's annoying your mate into having sex.

All good will be attacked.  It comes as quite a shock to realize that as a young person, but it must be accepted.  That also implies that if you're too afraid of being attacked, you won't be able to do good.

George McGovern wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in 1992 which deserves occasional recollection.  He realized after attempting to run a business that he -- and the big regulators in his party -- were wrong in their single-mindedness.

Serial killers are disproportionately black (think Kermit Gosnell), and disproportionately NOT white.  Why do we think this is not true?  Our media's business model is distorting reality to fit the leftwing worldview that whites are bad.

I give several recent examples of the great undiscussed moral issue of our time:  We let go evil men to do evil to the innocent.

A couple thoughts on parenting:

1) Parents worry about their kids a lot, yet the chances the parent kicks the bucket in the next year are much higher than the kid (unless the kid is a little baby who's like a week old).  So relax.

2) Why are Americans having fewer children these days?  I suspect part of the answer is that positive depictions of home life are rare since perhaps "All in the Family."  While it's (obviously) true some home lives are dysfunctional, millions are functional and have a great deal of warmth and are rewarding for everyone involved.  Unfortunately, the latter reality has been rarely depicted in modern America.

I saw a bizarre statement from a man I otherwise respect in an article.  He said:  "There’s no simple or even complex biological test you can apply that tells you who’s a man and who’s a woman."  That's absolutely outlandish, so I wonder if it's a misquote.

First I give you a couple thoughts on recent events.  Then, I knew teaching degrees were stupid, but I had no idea how stupid until I read an expose on Quillette:  https://quillette.com/2019/04/05/what-they-dont-teach-you-at-the-university-of-washingtons-ed-school/

What if there were something you could understand that would prevent you from becoming a mass murderer?  Or the corollary, what if there were something you could teach that would prevent others from doing so?  Here's an idea.

Many esteemed experts say stomach sleeping causes infants to die.  It's what they call a "risk factor."  But I don't think it makes any sense, so my baby is on her belly.

I read the mosque shooter's manifesto.  Here are some things I found.  Also, CNN isn't a big fan of Donald Trump while college students choose to blame Chelsea Clinton for the killings.

I have finished Paul Johnson's wonderful history of The United States and I thought I'd give an answer to:  "Why did we fight a civil war?"  It's not all that simple a question because the two sides were fighting about different things.

I read over 1,200 pages about Mao and Lenin in the past few weeks.  I distill this into two lessons:  1) Never allow hardship to lead to the concentration of political power  2) Beware of politicians whose hearts apparently bleed for the poor.
