The MalaCast

The idea that a word is "offensive" is an expression of fashion and nothing more.  Your offensive words will, down to every last one, be inoffensive to future generations.  The words you use will appall them and they will think you were immoral for uttering them.

Everybody chastises those who talk bad about people behind their back.  Not me.

When I look up a past news event on Wikipedia, it ought to have a “media interest score.”  Like, 1-10 how much time did media spend on the story, did it go national etc.  Like:

Stephen Halton Jr was killed on his way to work at the Cleveland Clinic in 2014.  There have been ten articles written on him.  There have been more than 24,000 on Michael Brown.

I’m not the first to notice many of the businesses the old left would have hated the most are uber-woke.  Big tech, big banks, big oil for example.

Seems like self defense:  Safe from the left due to their leftist policy, safe from the right due to business-friendly ideology.

"I would have cheerfully submitted to a thousand deaths to have saved this dear child." -Henry Clay on the death of his final of six daughters

People always say "No parent should outlive their child," but that's a little like saying "No good man should ever get sick and die before 75." In the sense that it's very undesirable of course it's correct, but in the sense that it's in some way unnatural is not. Most parents to have ever lived lost a child.

On the topic of addiction: People who are so desperate to remove moral responsibility from others also remove their agency, their potency, their humanity.

A man murdered at least 5 Christmas celebrants in Wisconsin by hitting them with his car.  He ran over a woman earlier in the month, on purpose, but his bail was set at just $1000 by a progressive DA who boasted of efforts to "reduce racial disparities in the system" and the "commitment to not keeping individuals held."  Will the left ever stop enabling savage cruelty?

In five US states, more than 2% of "motor vehicle occupant traffic fatalities" involve drowning.  I was stunned to learn this.

I'd like to say something about being on the "right side" of history. There is no history. It's not a thing, or more precisely, it's so many things that it can't be said to have a discernible view.

"First, as to putting the clock back. Would you think I was joking if I said that you can put a clock back, and that if the clock is wrong it is often a very sensible thing to do? But I would rather get away from that whole idea of clocks. We all want progress. But progress means getting nearer to the place where you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turning, then to go forward does not get you any nearer. If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man.” -CS Lewis

Here's an account Re: Tacoma Narrows Bridge (1940):

"On November 7, high winds buffeted the area and the bridge swayed considerably. The first failure came at about 11 a.m., when concrete dropped from the road surface. Just minutes later, a 600-foot section of the bridge broke free. By this time, the bridge was being tossed back and forth wildly. At one time, the elevation of the sidewalk on one side of the bridge was 28 feet above that of the sidewalk on the other side."

White privilege is real.  It's a thing and everything.  But I have two problems with it, as told by the left:

1) It ignores black privilege and asian privilege.  But every unchosen characteristic has some advantage and some disadvantage, depending on who's around.

2) It emphasizes race privilege over, and to the exclusion of, an infinite number of other similar privileges.  Why?  Because it, unlike counless others, taps into and amplifies feelings of white guilt and black victimhood.  It plays into the left's favorite moral melodrama.

Genocides, once common, have become rare. In most times and places, homicides kill far more people than wars, and homicide rates have been falling as well. Americans are half as likely to be murdered as they were two dozen years ago. In the world as a whole, people are seven-tenths as likely to be murdered as they were eighteen years ago. Life has been getting safer in every way. Over the course of the 20th century, Americans became 96 percent less likely to be killed in a car accident, 88 percent less likely to be mowed down on the sidewalk, 99 percent less likely to die in a plane crash, 59 percent less likely to fall to their deaths, 92 percent less likely to die by fire, 90 percent less likely to drown, 92 percent less likely to be asphyxiated, and 95 percent less likely to be killed on the job."  -Steven Pinker

As Thomas put it, "One wonders what this Court waits for."

I do not, however, wonder what the Court waits for.  I believe I know:  The left never understands the injustice of what it does until it is done to them.

"In such a strait the wisest may well be perplexed, and the boldest staggered. The circumstances are in a great measure new. We have hardly any land-marks from the wisdom of our ancestors, to guide us. At best we can only follow the spirit of their proceeding in other cases."  -Edmund Burke

“The armies separated; and, it is said, Pyrrhus replied to one that gave him joy of his victory that one other such victory would utterly undo him.”  -Plutarch

The left may be having pyrrhic victories at the moment:  After all, they are limiting their own sources of knowledge when they ban right-wingers but are not limiting ours at all.

If speech is violence, what's violence?  Laudable, if you ask NYT's Nikole Hannah-Jones.  The woke left are ruining more lives each year.  John McWhorter is standing up to them like almost no one else is.

John's pointed out that the left have set a series of traps which are impossible for a white person to escape.  E.g.  "Silence about racism is violence. But elevate the voices of the oppressed over your own."

One of the annoying things about believing in free will and individual responsibility is the difficulty of finding somebody to blame your problems on. And when you do find somebody, it's remarkable how often his picture turns up on your driver's license.  –PJ O’Rourke

"If a young black boy cannot dribble well when he comes out to play basketball, no one will cast his problem as an injustice.  No one will worry about his single-parent home, the legacy of slavery that still touches his life, or the inherent racial bias in a game invented by a white man.

...

All through the torpor of a day structured to spare his feelings around reading, writing, and arithmetic, he will long to be on the other side of that window, where everything is asked of him."  -Shelby Steele

A Chicago man just received probation for a carjacking.  His 13'th arrest in 14'th months.

A longtime NYT columnist has called for "black power."  This leaves the left alone in its racism:  There is no symmetry between right and left here.

AOC has said Cruz is "trying to get [her] killed."  She should beg forgiveness for such a lie, which ironically puts Cruz in danger.

"When the harvest is good we hear about how low prices will be bad for the farmers; however, when the harvest is bad we hear how the consumers will suffer from high prices."  -Bjorn Lomborg

Joe Biden has killed the Keystone Pipeline, apparently, an action which will kill people.  Which made me wonder:  Why has nobody become the poster child for oil pipelines?  Why aren't the relatives of the deceased from roadway and railway accidents carrying posters of them to Washington to protest Biden?

Fraser Institute:  "Oil pipeline outperforms rail and road by a wide margin... Rail causes nearly 40 times that many injuries requiring hospitalization on a per-ton-mile basis... Road is the worst performer on this measure, averaging one serious injury per billion ton-miles. This is 145 times the oil pipeline rate."

"The environmentalists staked their bets on chromium, copper, nickel, tin, and tungsten, and they picked a time frame of ten years.  The bet was to be determined ten years later, assessing whether the real prices had gone up or down.  In September 1990 not only had the total basket of raw materials but also each individual raw material dropped in price.  Chromium had dropped 5 percent, tin a whopping 74 percent.  The doomsayers had lost."

"It lay broken in half, and he looked into its trunk as into the mouth of a black tunnel.  The trunk was only an empty shell; its heart had rotted away long ago; there was nothing inside--just a thin gray dust that was being dispersed by the whim of the faintest wind.  The living power had gone, and the shape it left had not been able to stand without it."  -Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

The Capitol riot should have been a wake-up call for both the left and the right.

For the right:  Wow… the right does riot.

For the left:  Wow… riots are awful.

I'm not sure the country can survive if the right acts like the left.  It reminds me of parents who are fed up with their teen so decide to act like him.

The woman who was killed shouldn't have charged the Capitol.  She shouldn't have trespassed.  I do not support the officer being charged.
